This is a special agreement between Volkan Diyaroglu and the collector. Volkan Diyaroglu will be at the disposal of any collector interested in this agreement and the fulfilment of the requirements of the contract between the artist and the collector.

DETOX HISTORY (A PERFORMANCE BY VOLKAN DIYAROGLU)

Turkish artist Volkan Diyaroglu created a replica of the Turkish flag and washed it in bleach as a gift to his mother to commemorate her daily work caring for a large family. The flag is said to represent a pool of blood reflecting the sun, moon and stars as seen by the Sultan Alp Arslan after the Battle of Manzikert (1071). Washing as performance testifies to the caring of a mother, as well as centuries of bloodstains. It is an ugly, smelly and generous action of necessity that demonstrates responsibility.
